During the summer of 2005, while working in an award winning restaurant in West Cork, my employer suggested I take on a hospitality course in college in order to work towards managerial skills with the view of making me his Restaurant Manager.

I followed his advice, and with his help enrolled in Cork Institute of Technology. After only a couple of months, I decided to take a change of direction and follow a different path. I had previously studied Social Care in France (Brevet de Technicien Superieur en Economie Sociale et Familiale) and therefore felt confident in this change.

For the following three years, I studied full time and undertook some work placements also. The subjects I studied included:

  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Basic Counselling Skills
  • Cookery skills
  • Budget management
  • Law

In June 2008, I received the Award of Bachelor of Arts in Social Care with Distinction.
